The LunaFlex Meniscal Replacement System

A total replacement for the medial or lateral meniscus.

Fiber-reinforced, patient-matched, and built to stay in the joint.

The gap

The meniscus-deficient knee

LunaFlex is being developed for the meniscus-deficient knee – patients whose meniscal tissue cannot be repaired or has already been removed, and whose remaining options are resection, allograft transplant, or waiting for a knee replacement.

That leaves a large group of people with a joint that still works but is no longer protected, and a treatment ladder whose next rung is arthroplasty. LunaFlex is designed to sit between those two points.

Three cross-sections of a knee joint side by side, showing progression from left to right: a joint with intact cartilage and a torn meniscus, then cartilage lesions and further meniscal damage, then advanced osteoarthritis with worn cartilage, lost joint space and bone spurs.

The platform

Three integrated components.One device platform.

LunaFIT Meniscal Body

A fiber-reinforced, load-bearing composite engineered to reproduce native meniscal mechanics across compression, rotation, and shear.

LunaLOCK Fixation System

A central tibial bridge, circumferential reinforcement, and peripheral sutures engineered to provide hoop strength and implant stability.

LunaMATCH Software

Pre-operative planning software intended to translate patient imaging into an anatomically sized and positioned implant configuration.

Design concept

How LunaFlex is intended to work

  1. Reinforcement through the whole structure

Fiber reinforcement runs in multiple directions, supporting predictable behavior as the knee loads from different angles.

  2. Load spread across the joint, not concentrated

The geometry distributes force across the tibial plateau while retaining shape through combined compression and rotation.

  3. Fixed centrally and at the outer rim

Central tibial fixation resists migration, while peripheral sutures connect to the joint capsule so the implant can move with the knee.

  4. Matched to the individual patient

Patient-matched geometry is derived from pre-operative imaging instead of a fixed size set, supporting planned fit before surgery.
